Excerpt from Effects of Repetitive Compression on Lint-Cotton Packaging
In test 1 the bales were compressed, the ram lowered 12 inches (by bleeding the hydraulic pressure ‘with a’ needle valve), the bales re compressed, and the procedure repeated until the bale had been compressed 11 times with constant maximum pressure. In test 2 the bales were compressed with pounds per square inch of pressure to a platen separa tion of approximately 5 inches, after which the ram was lowered slowly to a platen separation of 12 inches. The bales were then recompressed with the same pressure, and the force-versus density relationship was monitored as the ram descended.
