In view of the expected shortage the Government has fixed the price of rice. Growers will be paid $2.6h per 100 pounds for paddy, wholesalers may charge $h.2l per 100 pounds for cleaned rice containing 60 percent broken grains, and retailers may sell for per 100 pounds to the public. Rice is the main staple of the peoples diet, the per capita consumption being among the highest in the western.hemisphere.
