(Back cover) Summary - Inspector Spencer Traps Danger Mouse Inspector Spencer, a famous cat detective, is shocked to find out that Danger Mouse has escaped from his prison cell. Everyone in town is concerned about this thief “on the loose,” and Inspector Spencer calls his assistants to devise a plan to re-capture the villain, Danger Mouse. As in the previous books, the animal characters are adorable and stimulate the imagination of the readers and listeners. The story is creative, problem-solving, and humorous for elementary-aged children. Ellen Greenberg is an elementary school teacher and reading specialist who loves children’s literature. She enjoys writing stories about her own pet, Spencer, who operates a detective agency where he and his animal friends are able to solve problems and catch criminals. This is her fourth book in the Inspector Spencer series. The author utilizes many of the beloved characters from the first book, “Inspector Spencer Solves the Curious Case of Danger Mouse,” such as Pierre the Parrot, who speaks in rhyme. All four books were written to arouse the interest and imagination of children and to help them develop a love for reading. In fact this story was suggested by a second-grade student, who enjoyed the other books and requested that the author write one about Danger Mouse escaping from jail. Several of her young readers stated their own desires to become authors. The illustrations, completed by a talented artist, Caitlin Campbell, are awesome. They are very creative and give the animal characters distinct personalities.
