Mason’s computer monitor is on the fritz, and it could go anytime; problem is this, it just may take Mason out too. The short novelette, titled “Refresh Rate,” follows the protagonist as he attempts to come to terms with his past transgression, using the failing monitor as a metaphor for the problems in Mason’s life. Also, it embodies his distant approach to life, as he fears the evil he has done before may seep back into his present. His attempt to end his life brings him in contact with a strong and noble presence determined to make him better.
