HE two firl’t volumes of the Ser lons now offered to the Public, are already well known. The third volume of the prefent Edition contains the pofihu mous Sermons of the dil’tinguilhed Au thor, which are faithfully printed from his paper’s. They are publiihed under fome difadvantages. He had not prepared them for the prefs; and they cannot be expected to have all the accuracy or the elegance of his former publications. The Editor did not think himfelf at liberty to hazard corre lions, by which he might have done injuflice to the peculiar fiyle and manner of the Author; but he has been at pains to compare different manu fcripts on the fame fubje ts together, and has taken advantage of the notes, which were of late years prepared for the pulpit. He is perfuaded, that there are fome of thefe Sermons which will be thought equal A to(2)
