The results of this investigation show that the average total cost of producing cotton per acre during the past season in the United States was and the average value of the returns, including seed, while the net profit per acre was The average yield for the plantations reporting was pounds and the average price cents a pound. The average yield of seed returned was bushels and the average price of the same slightly more than per bushel, or the equivalent of about per ton. The average cost of producing upland cotton in all States was cents per pound; the cost of Flor ida sea island was 16 cents per pound, while the Arizona long staple Egyptian was estimated to cost as high as cents per pound - due to the very high cost of irrigation.
