Excerpt from The Review of Reviews for Australasia: April 7, 1914
A somewhat peculiar feature of the fires is the fact that nearly every fencing post that lay on the track of the flames, if it were bored through to carry the fencing Wires or rails. Was consumed by the fire. Whilst most of the posts that were unbored and had the wires stapled on to the posts escaped destruction. It is assumed that the bored posts were destroyed through the wire holes creating draughts through which the fire was drawn through the posts.
