Excerpt from Transactions of the Royal Historical Society, 1874, Vol. 3
The Papers embraced in the present volume Will probably be deemed not unworthy of the, Society’s objects. The subjects are historical, and in their illustration, materials original or rarely accessible have been employed. The Council hope that in future volumes Papers may be included founded on some important documents brought to light by the Royal Commissioners on Historical Manuscripts. Since the publication of the former volume, the Society has in an increased membership indicated satisfactory progress last year the roll presented 303 names, now it con tains 383. The acquisition of convenient apartments at II, Chandos Street, Cavendish Square, has greatly contributed to the comfort of Members. In these and other respects the Society bids fair to accomplish the objects of its insti tution, and so to fulfil the best hopes of its projectors.
